I'm the guy that Monty referred to - I might go in depth about my AU a bit later (a healthy batch of citizens, functioning legislature, organically developed political culture, military simulation...great fun) in a shameless plug if that's okay, but for now I really want some practical advice on my drawings and some crediting help.

I absolutely love your site and toy around with the designs whilst watching something for designs for my AU navy. I've tried to keep a notepad document of all the names of the people that I've used pieces from, but over years it's become jumbled and I'm sure I'm missing loads of people in it.

My AU navy is a blue water navy with aircraft carriers, anti submarine destroyers, anti air destroyers, cruisers (obviously now obsolete but I've just gone for things akin to the Slava Class), Battlecruisers (akin to the Kirov class). The aircraft carrier is still a work in progress. We also operate hunter-killer and missile (not ballistic) submarines, and anti shipping Ekranoplans.

Much of my problems stem from the fact that I am essentially more of a plane buff than a ship nut - almost all the things I know about modern military vessels come from lurking on your forums, reading wikipedia and googling information on various maritime radar systems online (usually a fruitless endevour).

I'm rummaging around to find the specs for these - but the weapons systems for the missile destroyer are those of the type 45, the missile cruiser similarly has the SYLVER system with ASTER-15 and ASTER-30 missiles, but uses a Thales APAR mast instead of a BAE SAMPSON, and is equipped with BrahMos in VLS cells (with the two soviet satcom domes pinched from the Slava class - I remember reading somewhere that the P-500 missile and it's successors are guided by satellite from that system - I don't know the NATO code or the Russian name for it). The Kirov knockoff is essentially the same thing but with nuclear reactors to power it and on a larger scale. Both the cruiser and battlecruiser have quad 15 inch turrets. The submarine destroyer is equipped with two RUR-5 ASROC launchers and an ARTISAN radar. Instead of Phalanx II CIWS I've given it Kashtan CIWS to give it a little bit of anti air capability as it lacks a box launcher.

Thoughts? I'm nervous about putting these up as I've seen things SAVAGED brutally on here...

(Oh - my idea for my carrier tower is on that sheet as well, but I'm really confused about how the AN/SPN-46, AN/SPN-43C and AN/SPN-41 would be organised (or even what they look like, which is, you know, pretty important for a drawing lol), and I couldn't find any alternative carrier landing radar systems which are represented on shipbucket and have as much information about them).

Your photo is not sized properly and regarding the ship, the first two one is not really possible because of the huge bow gun and usually, Sampson is in front of SMART-L/S1850L. The last one also have mixed technology from different time and I doubt ASROC pepperbox using on board a 90-ish look ship.

What kind of modern anti submarine rockets are there, or have anti submarine rockets been phased out? I thought that the Russians had an upgraded version of the metel anti ship/submarine complex?

Also, what is up with the bow guns on the battlecruiser/cruiser? Should they perhaps be in front of the VLS where the ship is wider and so can accomodate all the below deck gubbins?

Modern Anti Submarine missile: RUM-139 VL-ASROC, MILAS, Hong Sang Eo/K-ASROC.
Why bow gun's are not okay? That's because they are out of date! What a cannon can do, missile can do it better and that's one of the reason that the Mk.71 8'/55 cannon didn't served on board the Spruance class.

Welcome aboard. The biggest thing for me is that you get the credits correct. Also you want to change your file settings in photobucket from 1024*1024 as the max size to 1 megabyte as the max size. That will prevent the image from being resized on you, and thus will result in a sharper image.

Would you happen to know if the ASTER-30/ASTER-15 missiles used in the SYLVER/SAMPSON (or APAR) combination as used by the Royal Navy, Royal Netherlands Navy and German Navy have a higher service ceiling than the sea based S-300/400 system used by the Russian Navy? Also, do you think that a modern concept for a TAKVR-type cruiser (Kirov/Slava type) could still rely upon the P-500 to BrahMos series of missiles as it's primary weaponry, or are there other, more modern anti ship missiles that could do the job better? Things like the Onyx are large, supersonic and carry a huge charge, I shouldn't imagine that even a large cruiser could carry many of them, and are (as far as I know) reliant largely upon GPS/GLONASS guidance and inertial navigation - do they use the surface search radar of the firing ship at all (I know that somewhat negates the advantage of a GPS/GLONASS based missile, but having them be able to be used more conventionally via the ships' radar is good for a backup?)?
