Here is my first Merchant ship.

I know she is far from finished but I need some feed back.

What do you notice, particularly the portholes, funnel arrangement amongst other things.

It is not a hopeless case yet. Like Blackbuck said, look at other vessels of this type. The easiest way is to scrounge around the topic Merchant Ships in the Real Designs forum. There is also a parts sheet for merchant vessels that Lazer_One posted. Check these out, take some inspiration from them, add some parts and detail accordingly, then post it, and adjust it as per comments. You have a good start so far, I can see that you are using the rudder from the SS Springwell, and that the underwater hull is not the same as your earlier ships. Keep improving this design, don't start on anything else and leave it half finished. one nitpick thoug, the stern island is a bit too rounded. Most merchants that had a stern like that had a sharp angl at the top.

Folks, cut some slack. There is little that wrong with the basic hull. I'm sure he'll add the extras on, it is a WIP after all. From what we've seen comparing APDAF to Novice is unfair, I wouldn't expect every newbie to churn out completed perfect drawings like Novice or WhyMe at the fourth attempt.

One thing I will say with Mod Hat on, if you don't want to get into arguements with APDAF, and make another ten page essay that I have to lock again, then don't look at this post or comment on it unless you have constructive criticisms or sound advice. We don't want to keep covering the same ground with every post APDAF makes. Also, its up to APDAF to listen to what advice he's given to make this ship turn out good.

Either enlarge the funnel or add another one. Then, try adding some masts so We can tell where the cargo bay access doors would be. Finally, work on the superstructure–it lacks almost all possible detail.

You're getting there, slowly... but its a start.
For the mid-structure try using a dark shade of gray to seperate structure levels. Becouse now it forms a catwalk.
Try shading or softening the edges to make it look less boxy. Take an example the mid-stucture off blackbucks picture.
