Wilhelm Bauer and Waldemar Kophamel U-boot tenders. Both were sunk by bombs but Waldemar Kophamel got raised by Russians, renamed "Kuban" and joined the Soviet Navy in 1955. She served as a submarine tender and later as a floating barracks and finally was scrapped in 1978.

Otto Wunsche, although included in this class by some sources, was a bit different so I'll draw her separately.

Ahhh...brings back memories of browsing thru for hours on Erich Gröner's monumental encyclopedia of German warships from 1860-1945. Somewhere, hidden in my stash of things I brought over from Sweden, when moving to the US, I might have his 1:1200 scale rendition of Wilhelm Bauer, complete with red u/w hull, olive green FCS and electronics, pink weapons(!), red boats...yes, was much, much younger and the color coding was there to ease the identification of the several systems...
This, however, I will not 'pink' the weapons! 8-) ;) :) :D

keep 'em coming!

Only thing that strikes my eye, is that you seem to be using my old and quite crappy 37mm mount (drawn from the mythical days of mount olympos and atlantis still floating) on the above bridge mounting, but your own (more correct one) in the rear...

Well, it was supposed to be a 40mm Bofors... I'll fix that.

Thank you!

Hela, although classified as a fleet tender, technically was a command ship. She survived the war and was taken over by the Russians in 1945. She joined the Soviet Navy in 1946 under the name "Angara" and served till the 1990's. And now, according to CharterWorld.com she is being converted to a luxury yacht! This IS German engineering. The Kriegsmarine way ;)

Excellent drawings, tenders are often overlooked. The KM had few tenders compared to other navies but they certainly had good looks!
