OK... she's currently under construction.

This is the initial work on the hull.
Coloration is just to help me keep track of things and is not her actual color scheme. I've found a few pics of a model kit and have a few photograps- mostly I'm working off this line drawing and this model gallery. If anyone else has some good source pictures, I would appreciate them. As I intend to do the 'camouflage' paint scheme, any tips/tricks as to doing camo on a vessel would also be appreciated.

Looking promising.
Don't forget to check the IJN parts sheet; I've just added some boats.
Also PM'ed you a drawing of Kaiyo ;)

WhyMe...
Again, a hearty thank you for your assistance! The drawing you sent is by far the most detailed that I have been able to find... it even shows the location of the Imperial Chrysanthemum on the bow! I'm not sure which guns and directors I'll be drawing for this ship, but feel free to add them if the pass muster.

emperor_andreas,

I've got that one in b&w, but this shows a lot more detail thanks to the colorizing. Thanks!

Thanks to WhyMe, the entire drawing above is abandoned. ;) I'll be starting a new version tonight, and working on it for the next little while. Hope to have the whole thing done by the New Year.

Thanks to the new source pictures, things are looking a bit more 'authentic'- meaning that I'm willing to show off a bit of the future Kaiyo before I finish, in order to get some tips on how to improve coloring/shading and such. Right now, I'm doing the plane 'haze gray' color scheme, using the colors form WhyMe's Katori class training cruisers.
Please let me know if there's anything that i need to work on as far as placement of shadows and proper shading. Also, this is my first time really going into detail with aerials, and any advice on sprucing them up would be appreciated.

Looking good! Are you planning to do all the IJN CVEs?

Not sure. I'd really like to, but I don't know how much time I'll have.
Anyone who wishes to see them done is more than welcome to start on them; I generally make no advance claims on a ship, as my skill isn't what I consider to be of that caliber and my schedule doesn't leave me a lot of free time. :|
