This is my first attempt at a real ship, always looking for pointers, shading is still something I'm working on. This is also the closest I've come to serving on a real boat, worked three summers on the Erie Canal, mostly mowing and painting, but got a couple of rides on the Urger. It's the flagship of the canal "fleet" of tugs and is now used for public education. Still a WIP.

P.S. On the Wikipedia page on the canal is a photo of the lock I worked at, #32 Pittsford NY

Were there any hot yet snotty teenage girls to ask out? (assuming you're a teenager yourself)

Just turned 40, this was a while ago, and no, no snotty girls, wasn't a big teenage hangout.

Its hard to give an opinion without comparing with the real boat; but I do notice a lack of any screw, and the very primary colours seem to detract from necessary detailing, as around hatches, windows etc. That said, a real pleasure to see a new member beginning on something so interesting:

Well other than that you need to add a propeller screw and of course as you said, shading, it's a good draw. :)

Good view of the Urger out of the water.

That's what I call a perfect source. Now, Joseph, draw!

That's the one I'm using plus what I remember, trying to squeeze time to draw in between work and school.
Any tips on drawing props?

I'm not totally new, I did some drawings a while ago, just haven't had time for a while.
