This is my first drawing posted on Shipbucket, a simple modification of Darth Panda's excellent HMNZS Otago. This is a proposed idea to replace the four offshore patrol vessels, all of different types, currently operated by the Canadian Coast Guard. In this proposal, four PV85 class vessels would be built to operate for the CCG, and an additional six to eight would be built for the Royal Canadian Navy to fill an "OPV gap" that currently exists in the RCN's capabilities.
The main idea of this proposal is to split the current $3.1B funding for the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship, with $1.5B going to the Canadian Coast Guard to build two additional Diefenbaker - class Icebreakers which could be used year-round for Arctic sovreignty patrol. The remaining $1.6B would go to the Coast Guard and the Royal Canadian Navy, to build four and six/eight of the PV85 - type OPVS, respectively. These ships would operate in Maritime waters in the domestic patrol role, although they would have limited ice protection. This plan would replace the Canadian Coast Guard's current OPVs, which there is currently no plan to replace, and give the Royal Canadian Navy a new capability for offshore patrol which isn't effectively met by the Kingston - class MCMVs or the Halifax - class Frigates.
The source of the proposal and the entire article is here, and is a very interesting read:

Many thanks to Darth Panda for his excellent drawing! I'm hoping to have a RCN version of the PV85 done shortly, and then some original drawings of Canadian Coast Guard ships, providing I can find the time.
