these 3 are the 3 concepts for the USS Thorn AGS backfit. the no 2 concept was favored in the study, and that one was already in the bucket (with some mistakes though)

only the air capable ones have to be done.... but I most likely won't do those (at least not all of them) so any takers?

It's a text error. Option 2 and 3 are very close, but option three has the structural extension over the old 52 mount.

in 1978 Congress approved the construction of a single air-capable Spruance to allow operation of four helicopters, a later possibly a VTOL aircraft. The USN didn't really want this ship and successfully redirected the funds to a standard Spruance instead.

Added the Grumman 698 on it too as a long-range ASW and AEW type with secondary anti-surface strike capability too.
