I can't imagine what any country would have to counter such a beast.

Empire of Mankind will respond!

"Attention all vessels, this is Lord Admiral Rath. It is clear to me that we cannot win this fight by utilising conventional weapons of warfare. I order you all to disengage and withdraw. The Dominus Astra* shall be the fiery sword of retribution that ends this war. I repeat, disengage and pull away. The Emperor's blessing be upon you!"

Lord Admiral Zaccarius Rath

*The Dominus Astra, was an Emperor Class Battleship under the command of Lord Admiral Zaccarius Rath that played a pivotal role in defeating Hive Fleet Behemoth and ending the Battle for Macragge when it entered the heart of the Tyranid fleet and detonated its Warp Drives, dragging the entire Tyranid fleet along with itself into the Warp.

But back to business, as we all know massive air strike can sink event the largest of ships. Yamato is best exemple.

No Aircraft would be able to get anywhere near her as there is too much AA guns.

It'd be lossy, but you could probably field multiple carriers for one H45. You might lose a lot of Corsairs and Avengers in the process, but they're much more replaceable than the carrier which sits safely out of range or that battleship. Considering that almost nine-tenths of the slow strategic bombers usually made it past even the most modern of ground-based AA, there's a good chance that the more maneuverable fighters could outfly the shells/rockets (Taifun is unguided) and the MCLOS surface-to-air missiles of the time.

Furthermore, considering the Allied development cycle for the VT fuze started before the war and reached the front line only in late 1944, the 4-year gap in German development of such fuzes might mean that the battleships might lack sufficient numbers of proximity fuzes for their AA.

Not really too many more than it is accurate, considering the number of SAMs she has along with the guns. Anyway, she would almost definitely have some of those carriers in the earlier posts escorting her too. As for an Essex class carrier countering this, I doubt they would be able to get many planes through the screen that would be formed around the (pride?) of the Kriegsmarine. And those that get through will have to deal with all of the little variables that come around when making a bombing or strafing run. The thing is a big target, but with an equally massive escort. Whatever the Americans throw at this can easily be countered by the German equivalent.

And when the 80cm guns get in range the "yankys" are doomed.
