Since real Greek Navy had 7 Fletchers,I thought an ASW conversion with Adis I missiles.These 3 Fletchers (real name of D-65 was Nearhos,but in this scenario Nearhos is a Charles F.Adams Destroyer in service since 1968) converted in 1969-1970 to ASW units with 8 SSM Adis I,passed in reserve in 1989 and finally decomissioned two years later.Ships of this subclass served with the Ionian Sea Navy Command during the Cold War period.What do you think?Stay or ditch?
All sunk as targets as also 3 more of this type,last remaining Fletcher in Aegean Sea is D-16 Velos as a museum ship.
Question:Does Thyella class could have a Mk29/Sparrow in the place of the rear Mk33 gun?

I don't know if Twin 5/38s would be able to mount there considering it originally had singles.

Also, 12x? ASW torpedo tubes seems a bit excessive...

I agree, Blackbuck, especially since those 375 mm TT are ASW torpedoes... Two triples will be more than enough, considering there are two ASW rocket launchers AND depth charge racks at the fantail!

As for the SeaSparrow, I'd be very cautious about the implied weight. The Fletchers were far more weight critical than the later Gearings, and even they had difficulty packing all the weaponry various second-hand owners wanted to have! As the design looks now, it appears to have reached that critical level.

Drop the rear ASW rocket launcher and one of the guns and add Sea Sparrow instead.

You also have Hedgehog I see...which would've been made redundant by the ASW rocket launchers you have. Plus waaaaay too many depth charge launchers for a ship of this period.

Modifications:

-Hedgehog will be eliminated
-Guns:One double 5"/38 is about the same weight of 2 singles (perhaps a little less)
-One 324mm triple TT will be eliminated
-Do anyone has a link for the Bofors ASW mortar? (even in Swedish)
-There is also a light variant of Sea Sparrow,Italians put it on FACs 670t.
Consider that in that era RHN had 5 Gearings II with Mk25/Sea Sparrow and the number of Elli frigates was increasing,as new units
entering service.The first hellenic-built S-Class,F452 Hydra entered service in 1983 and last,F466 Thira in 1991.

In that era (early to mid 1980's) RHN had 5 Gearing-M with Mk25/Sea Sparrow,Konon Class Frigates had Mk29/Sea Sparrow
and the 10 FAC Klasse 145H (which transfrered to Cyprus in 1990 from RHN East Mediterranean Command) had the lighter Italian Albatros with 4 missiles Aspide.So RHN had 21 ships with point AAW system,it was not nessesary for Thyella subclass to have Sea Sparrow,just asked.

Now for the depth charges:As I said some pages back,RHN still has some quantity of depth charges in store,all built during a program in 1960's and 1970's with several improvements over WW2 ones.The Kimon Class destroyers also had in stern a modified rack for Mk3 depth charges and a specially built ammunition store.In 2004 this system removed,but it can be added if nessecary.This last is real,if you look in stern of Greek Charles F.Adams DDGs in photos.Another patent (fictional) with Mk3 depth charges is a unique system for the protection of naval bases from midget submarines.

It seems strange to have covered 3"/50 mountings when similar destroyers had open mounts.

The Mk33 is the enclosed 3"/50 (open is the Mk27) and these were surplus USN in very good price (in erarly 1970's),so RHN bought about 40.On them a IR seeker installed in 1984,first IR system for guns developed entirely in HLK and fired new ammunition with proximity fuse or penetrating which improved their performance.Real Greek Navy has proximity fuse ammunitions for Oto Melara 76mm,giving some anti-missile capability.The Thyella is as decommissioned.
