Beautiful Queen Mary! Looks like its post-WW2 from the look of the aft superstructure. I've got a bunch of references I've collected on my Photobucket showing some of the changes over the years and her WW2 appearance. http://s49.photobucket.com/albums/f252/ ... ueen_Mary/

Very impressive drawings of very large liners.
Here's just for a contrast a relatively small Polish coastal passenger ship Mazowsze:

Rowdy, the Queen is a Queen! One question though: are you sure about the Red Duster? I believe she most of her career flew the Blue Ensign (Her Captains being RNRs!)

You may be right Bezobrazov, my reference showed the Red Duster but I can't say conclusively either way...
Thanks for the good link Canis, it's interesting to see her change over the years :)

My take is that the largest of the liners always were prized commands, often offered to a Commodore of the shipping company or a senior captain, who most often had a background in the RN. (E. J. Smith, for instance was a Commander, RN, before retiring and beginning his long association with White Star Line.)

Most big companies commodores were usually R.N.R and so, the most prestigious liner of a company usually flew the Blue Duster.
Very nice little ship WhyMe.

Portuguese passenger-cargo liner of the Colonial Navigation Company. Built in 1954, scrapped in 1978.
