Alright, I understand some of the conventions, such as a Helo on the deck means the ship has hangar facilities, but if the bird hovers, it doesn't. What are some of the other conventions for depicting helicopters? And if the ship can carry a mixed variety, Should I depict all of them?

Ideally you pick a single year and draw the helos embarked at that point in time. If there are multiple types at the same time, it is appropriate for one to be hovering and one landed.
