I am wondering about the royal navy WWII folder on the main site. the ship in there are all drawn by 'unknown' and they look inferior to the current shipbucket standard. why are those over there, and should those ships be redone?
I really like the HMS Hood, and if it should be done, I might take it on one day..... if I have time enough to do the research on it.

All the ships in that folder need to be redone. I already did some and more will be done. Also Hood and Portsmouth Bill are doing their more than fair share. If you want you can also do some ships from that folder.

Novice has the right of it; the folder you refer to has been around for some time; and while it has done service the standard would not now be accepted as Shipbucket style. We are gradually replacing drawings as new ones get done; so yes, there is still scope for members to cover ships not yet replaced. The only caveat is that any new drawings must be up to the standard of Hood, Dartpanda, Novice, and those working in that particular group.

Well the thing is that those drawings, grude and perhaps not up to today's SB standarts were the thing that started this whole mess.

AFAIK Mconrads once found out those drawings from the internet and started to drawn similary in the same scale. Eventually the skills and numbers of artists increased and thus became the shipbucket as we know it now. So in many sense those drawings are up there for histroy and nostalgic reasons. I think we should keep them there just to remind us where we camed.

IIRC, those drawings, or at least some of them were by Kitsune - yes the guy who posts here. Like Golly said he basically started the Shipbucket style and MConrads didn't copy him, but rather worked directly with Kitsune to refine the concept.

Very interesting. I wasn't aware theat 'unkown' was kitsune. And having just browsed that folder I see its now honoured with 'Where Shipbucket Started'. And yes, it would be fitting and respectful to always keep that folder for posterity.

Most of "unknown" should be Kitsune. That's just a reasonable guess based on conversations I've had with him elsewhere.

I believe the folowing is the source of all of 'Unkown' drawings
http://web.archive.org/web/200005102053 ... index.html
It is through Internet Archive as the site is no longer accessible

Yep, that's it. I remember MConrads telling us about a fantastical Royal Navy Encyclopedia from years past and that he could never find the old link to it. Well done sir. :)

Congratulations Novice :D .It looks as though you've solved the riddle of who 'unkown' is: Andrew Arthur is the name on the site.
