what you describe looks more like ww2 then ww1 to me.... special build landing craft were not invented in ww1, and I see no good reason why to advance through the netherlands. the ardennes, like the germans really did in WW1, seems an much better idea to me.

yeah, but those can be stopped by an single gun so to say... you can't just sail into an harbour and say 'this is ours now!' the only way you could do that is using the trojan horse idea..... but wouldn't the french stop the ships if a whole lot of ships of an possibly enemy nation go to their harbour?

and of course, even if battleships are close, the french would still not let a bulk of unknown ships in. what did you want to do with those battleships? threaten the french? bomb the harbour so you still can't use it?
