I thought the Canadian navy had picked the S92?
They have, but it's a controversial choice.
Now before I proceed, I just want to put up a disclaimer: IIRC. I could be wrong, but I also know the original sources where I heard this and so I can go back and verify if questioned (airliners.net, BTW)
Anyway, half the problem is contractual, since between the Canadian government, and Sikorsky, it's basically a contractual cluster****
The other half is safety-related since Sikorsky basically liked about how long the main rotor transmission can run "dry" (i.e., without oil) in an emergency situation, leading to a number of fatal crashes. Of course, the fact that relatively so many pilots had to test that claim out for themselves is unsettling, too. Personally, I'd be hesitant as hell to get on an S92. I'd sooner get on an Osprey.
