I don't think the Portuguese navy is the oldest one but it is quite old: the first known participation in a naval battle in 1180. That's one of the reasons I sympathize with it; it's a sort of "faded glory" thing if you know what I'm saying ;)

Here's another old-timer: armoured cruiser Vasco Da Gama, built in Great Britain in 1876 and served in Portuguese navy for 60 years.
