You were right about the GFCS, erik; not in that it was never used without the associated 127 mm guns, since Alvama is right about the Frieslands, but because on these ships in particular they used the indigenous Swedish developed FCS, which, for lack of any in the SB parts drawer I had to design myself, so drawing duly updated then! As for ace's querry; yes I've studied the available photos of the ships, consulted with Jane's on this matter, and they, indeed shipped the LW-02 and DA-02 in combination. In fact, this radar outfit, as far as I've been able to penetrate the, unfortunately, rather scant Colombian sources, did remain onboard till their decommissioning in 1986, so, again, 1 point to Alvama, nil to ace! 8-) :D

well, that's why I am on sb, anyway... I learn something new everyday :P
the combination isn't that weird though, the Friesland class and the van speijks both carried the same fit, IIRC.
(they are 120's, not 127's btw ;) )

That's why we all are here, ace. I, for instance, just learnt that I'd forgotten to install the 40 mm FCS aside the foremast!. So, once more the drawing's been updated... - and ace, I know my guns...what erik was referring to was the American FCS. That would've been associated with the 127 mm gun system, most likely the /38 or /54. Please read the posts thouroughly... 8-) - The USN never used the 120mm calibre, except at some odd time during the so-called 'ABCD'-fleet period in the 1890s.

Thank you so much, Kim, for your kind words. :) :D Speaking of education: here's another lesson in the chapter: "Mistakes that you'd rather avoid making!":  I forgot in my frenzy to actually study the pictorial material I have on these destroyers to add the navigational radar. I had slated the mast for some re-touching and -drawing, but somehow completely forgot that quite important piece of equipment. Again, I couldn't find an already drawn suitable radar so had to do it from scratch. Anyways...another update made... :P

This is great drawing, and I weren't expecting anything less :)
Its nice to see how my orginal drawing has envolped, differently than I would have done it, but nevertheless, quite fabolous direction.

The little breading difficoulties for correct FCR sets just proves that perhaps Bezo was better to do this class than I would have been, since I know how badly under-knowlidged I am myself in regarding western eletronics and radars.

Are you certain the US GFCS is correct? To my knowledge, these were never sold abroad without the accompanying guns, and indeed I'm reasonably sure they never directed 120mm guns in any service.
Didn't the Holland and Friesland class use them aswell?
Certainly this image suggests otherwise.

One has to remember that, in the day of analog fire control systems, one couldn't 'mix and match' systems to anything like the degree we can today. Controlling a certain gun type (and its associated muzzle velocity, projectile drag, etc) actually involved a new set of carefully-machined three dimensional cams that would allow the analog computation of a fire control solution. This is a very simple example - as the cam rotates and moves vertically, electro-mechanical sensors follow the contour of the object. Several such working together would form an analog mechanical computer.

As far as I'm aware, the Mk 68 GFCS was only ever used for 5/54 (and possible 3/50?) fire control because those were the only cams that were ever designed and manufactured for it. (caveat: it might also have been used for Mk 71 8"/55 fire control aboard Hull during trials of the former. However, many of the Mk 68s had received a digital computer upgrade by this time, and so the cam issue would not exist).
