Yes, I have also been crappy drawer in the past. Recollecting this work from december 2007, I finaly diched my way back to finish the series in so to speak (as sort of chinese answer to the latest RN frigate reseries with lots of ships.)
Naturally a fresh start was in hand, thanks to the Russian naval books I got decent (if yet horribly errorneous in some aspects) linedrawing to work with them.
This time I deciced to do the all major versions of what was out there, thougth beeing large class stretching far back from 1970's to 2000s, variations occured and I couldnt cover them all simply due lack of references. Deep dives back to the archives of CDF, SDF and Huitong's site brougth back fond memories when I used to be part of the chinese military internet, and perhaps we will see some other undrawn PLAN surface ships in near future by me.
So starting of with the lead ship Jinan, build in late 60's, entering service at early 70's, she was the first Major warship build by PLAN, in about 20 years later than her ancestor in VMF, the enigmatic pr.41 class one-of large destroyer.
and Here she is as fitted with helicopter hangar and landing platform, in configuration where she later on decommisioned as museum ship
(I've found out what city that martime museum is but If I ever go to PRC, I will surely visit it)
Here is Xi'an showing the typical layout of the most of the class in the PLAN ligth shade with black pennants:
Here is Hefei (132), as she should be, instead of my orginal drawing:
And here comes the more modified versions:
Kaifeng and Dalian were given the YJ-8 series missiles and HQ-7 SAM in early 90's and were for long one of the better ships in PLAN service
And finaly the last two, Zhanjiang and Zhuhai, were build in early 1990's, about 40 years after Neustrashimiy for fielding better 37mm mounts, FRC and Yj-8 SSMs compared to standard "Luda's"
In early 2000 they both were later refitted with YJ-83 SSMs, more streamlined 100mm main guns and HQ-7 SAMs
