This vessel is designed to be the vessel which conducts NGS during a landing but with some differences:

It carries 3 Merlin or 5 Apache Helicopters to assist with the operations (or a mix of the two)
It carriers 2 LCP for landing troops
Can be used for sea control as well

I took this idea as a more down to earth vessel compared to the ones we have seen recently

Many Thanks

Nick

A modern colonial cruiser, eh?
I'm not sure it's going to work that well. Troop facilities are going to be too small for anything but small raids, the air dept is going to be working flat out to keep five copters operational and you don't have the means to deal with whatever warships or aircraft the enemy might be able to come up with.

This is mainly designed to SUPPORT Landing Operations,
With Automation etc it would be viable and also 40 Additional RMs is useful for any attack

It is designed to operate in TFs and so there would be larger vessels (ie carriers and Helo Carriers) that could handle maintenance

Thing is if you'd get a better result if you spent the money on building better/larger LPH/LPAs rather than on something like this.
Instead of 40 marines you might get 50 or sixty and the five extra heloes will be cheaper to support.
Personally I don't see why you'd want cruise missiles on it, especially if it's part of a task force. Better to disperse them amongst the "proper" destroyers and frigates. They've got the space and the manpower to maintain them, and in all likelihood little else to do.

I have to say I'm not entirely sold on the concept, but the ship is solid. There's not much I feel I can comment on - frankly I'm better at spotting bad than good. So take it as a good sign :p

I'd want four quadpacked Mk-41 cells to go with the TLAMs, but yeah, it's a solid design. I presume you've got a stern bay as well (for smaller craft)?

I'm not sure if the complete lack of a gun-based CIWS is a good idea. The RAM should be able to handle any threats, but better safe then sorry with a billion dollar ship, right?

Interesting how NGFS came back into vogue post Falklands war. The British are trying to develop a 155mm gun which makes sense if it has characteristics of AS90 means artillery officers ashore can work to common impact plot. Then of course there is the "Monitor" on one of the AU weapons sheets is an MLRS naval mount now as a "Gunner" that is a much better option than a single gun in this role.
During ww2 gunners fired guns from landing craft on run in to beach, most of the British assualt divisions at normandy swapped their 25 pounder towed guns for Priests and sextons. Now there is a project or have seen a Z lighter with a troop of 25 pounders set up on the deck "in Action" of Arakan I think. I do wonder if a modern LCU could take an AS90 or M109 firing from its decks?
