Very, very nice, Miho, though, personally I doubt the MoD would've chosen an Admiral's name, and, quite possibly not the ill-fated on of Hood's. In fact, I can imagine, if such a name would've been ultimately chosen, then Fraser (Lord Fraser of North Cape) or Sommerville (Sir James Sommerville) or Cunningham (Lord Cunningham of Hyndhope) would've been much more politically correct; and even Mountbatten (Lord Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl of M.; previously known as Prince Louis of Battenberg and his son Earl Mountbatten, 2nd Marquess of Milford Haven) - If I were to save these drawings, those are among the names I'd prefer to put on the ships!

IMHO the names would either be cities or counties in line with recent naming policy. Blake seems to have been the last ship named after an admiral.
And quite frankly where the convention for naming carriers after Royalty came from is open to question too.

Agree with you there. Only reason why I even considered the admirals' name option were the fact that IRL there were a number of Type42s (and later Type22s that were named after towns... - but speaking of...HMS Southampton was available... - But, of course, one could assume that, if these were to have been built the other, later classes would've had to be named after other entities...

Traditionally the First Sea Lord suggests names these then have to be approved by the monarch.It does get confusing when they mix names in the same class,such as an admiral and a cat as in the Tigers. Also the splended cats ie Lion class battlecruisers when the majority of the class were named after royals.But thats the Brits for you.

So was it that Winston Churchill's suggestion to name the battleship Queen Elizabeth (1912) after Cromwell was vetoed by King Geoerge V...all for the better, we may agree on...

Yeah thats a bit of hypocrasy at work there seeing as he and indeed Battenberg had to change their own names a few years later.

The Kaisers priceless quip, when the British Royal family changed their name to 'Windsor' "Are we now to have the Merry Wives of Sax-Coburg and Gotha?". But yes the convention seems to be staying with non admiral names; though I beleive Prince Charles has agreed that one of the new carriers should now be named Ark Royal.

Ah sheesh. From what I remember (it's been a few years since I did the first T43) I just chose it because it was a nice name, not because I had any significant meaning for it. I'm perfectly willing to put the name of a county on there.

Norfolk Class sounds good to all involved?
