The Stettin looks good ,but the middle 105mm AA gun is badly placed, as it is above the torpedoes, there is no place for the hoists and loading mechanism of the gun. Iwould exchange places with the blue lifeboat for better placement.

On the Stettin class, I would move the after superstructure more forward. This would allow space for an additional 10.5cm AA mount superfiring over the after main battery.

As an aside, given the use of radar, is it really necessary to carry an aircraft. You could eliminate the a/c and add more superstructure and/or air defense capability. (This would also elminate the fire hazard that an a/c and its weapons & fuel could create)

Not really. The USSR would in all likelyhood have invaded Germany once they'd gotten their feet back under them.
Completely debatable and based on a lot of assumptions that can't be backed up by any hard evidence. Especially since there were yet more assumptions based on Stalin's statements and way of thinking, that he'd rather get pieces of the world pie when Germany and Japan won. And of course it makes sense, since letting Germany gain that much power would be suicidal if they wanted to take out Germany. As history PROVED, the U.S.S.R was more than capable of taking out Germany with Allied help, so there was never any need to beat around the bush and build up their forces just to do that.

And that my friend, is why historians cannot agree on whether or not Stalin had any intentions of invading Germany. So an AU could go either way.

Second advice: please stop the political discussion. This is AU (complete fictional) and this is a shipdrawing forum.

Now for your advices about the Stettin class:

The middle 10,5cm: it is placed good, the firing angle is good, too. It is not placed above the torpedoes but more to the centerline. Might not be clearly visible. The ammo is stored between the aa-directors above the beginning of the funnel.

Change place of the mid 10,5cm with the boats: Just no. The the boats would get out of the range of the main crane. The crane can serve the boats, the aircraft and the loads. I won't install an additional crane.

The recon aircraft: very most of big ships of all navies were fitted with radar and recon aircraft until the end of ww2. Aircraft were for other purposes, too.

The position of the forecastle is good. The Stettin is a cheaper cruiser than the Hippers but with far more range and durance but reduced firepower. The foreship is designed to keep much more dry than all its predecessors.

Additional 10,5cm turret: I would add more 3,7cm aa. There are none by now, what is very unusual.

Thank you for your thoughts, they were very constructive.

Politics is a part of an AU. An AU usually isn't as good as it could be if the creator hasn't thought out the politics realistically and in detail. But whatev...

was just trying to bring up an interesting point on how this AU could have been made possible.

Since the only source I found is on http://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/ ... index.html I am not sure if this really is a 'never built'. So it's attached to my AU.
The destroyer design "Zerstörer 1945" was build around an improved high pressure steam engine. The size is 3.700 tons, its armament is impressive:
4 x 12,8cm twin turrets, light weight, half automatic
4 x 5,5cm aa single guns, unshielded
6 x 3cm light aa twins
2 x torpedo quad tubes, 16 stored
100 mines
with 80000 hp a max speed of 39,8 knots. But like most german ships a short range of only 3600 miles.

Does anybody have an additional source for this class?

The type B is a to 150 m and 4200 tons stretched type A with enhanced communications, rearranged aa and 15cm lightweight instead of 12,8cm twins. Engine power is increased, too to meet the speed of type A. Type B is a flotilla leader.

Type B is now really AU.

Finally the 1945 type destroyer after a 1:1250 model I googled. It defers at the platforms around the bridge and the aft funnel. For more the small size doesn't support more details.
See a pic of the original hansa model here: http://www.german-navy.de/pics/1250/z1945.jpg german-navy.de again, is there no other source?

Very impressive, considering the lack of source materials!
I've got a small line drawing of this class in a book but it appears even less detailed than the one you used.

Try asking on Warshipprojects or Secret Projects
If anyone is likely to know about it they will.
