I disagree. Pretty much any ship badge can be made recognizable in much smaller size than you use now. Of course, it won't look exactly like the artwork you copy but that shouldn't be the point, right? ;)
Sorry, but I disagree. In my point of view deserve incredible work of art (the ships!) well looking badges. This badges are made original with some finesse for the heraldic background and is a symbol for the identicy for each vessel. When it's decided you can't take a good picture of a badge and then minimize it, but you have to make it in pixel art there will be some limitazion in how small you can make it and though keep the heraldic quality. That's my point of view: quality follows quality ;)

Ok, just to be clear: I'm not trying to prove anything here nor to convert anyone into my way of thinking.
Just out of curiosity I tried to make one of the badges (found in the first post of this thread) smaller.

Yep, in a way I like it. You can see both the tree and the five stars BUT... You can't see the excact star constellation and the tree is a tree not thee tree ;)
I realise that we are out in a discussion of perception right now. It's important to state I fully agree that the most important thing in our drawings is the SHIPS :!: What divide us is apparently how much a badge will change focus or not. If you are fond of the badges from war ships and think it gives the ship an unique identity you'll like to present that in the best manner to promote the ship. That's how I see it and therefore make an effort to do the badges correct as possible. Anyway, we also do compromises on the ships to do them in SB-style, and I also have to do compromises (I don't like it :? ) in drawing the badges. In my own mind I scaled down to that minimum for most of them as tolerable. ;)

With all due respect to all members (and thanks for the contributions), the decision on crest/badge sizes will be made by the admin team, as part of the review of templates. I'm only mentioning it here to save bezobrazov's excellent thread from going too far 'off topic' :)

Now, having sorted out the badge issue helpfully, how 'bout comments on the ships themselves, or have we exhausted ourselves? 8-)

If any kind soul out there might have a picture of the Brasil when just commissioned (and with, presumably the 76 mm OTO-Melara on her bows!) please share!

 Back to bussiness, back to the main issue: I think these vessels look magnificient and as always very well drawn. Unfortunately I'm not capable to participate in the more tecnical part so I can't comment on that ;)
