Cruisers



The Chapayev-class (Project 68) were a group of cruisers built for the Serverniyan Red Fleet during and after the Great Calamity. Seventeen ships were planned in total, but only eight were built, two being converted to Project-33. Succeeding the older Pr.26 Kirov class, the Chapayev was quite similar to it in looks and armament, but was slightly bigger in terms of length. During the final years of the Great Calamity, these ships where used to hunt down lighter Volken ships that lingered near convoy routes in Nordscannia.
During the post war era of the early 1950s, gun cruisers became obsolete as missile-armed ships began to become more prominent. In the Cold War, these ships were put on secondary roles as over the next 20 or so years the ships were pulled from service and decommissioned as much faster and lighter guided-missile ships entered service.
The last Chapayev was decommissioned in 1981.

The Smolensk-class (Project 33) were guided-missile cruisers built for the Serverniyan Red Fleet during the beginning of the Cold War. Built by using the hulls of two Chapayev-class cruisers Pr.33 was designed to counter Angevin ballistic submarines serving mostly for ASW helicopter operations.
The hulls of the two Pr.68 ships had their earlier weaponry completely removed and the tall large superstructure build aft to house hanger space for up to six helicopters. The large lattice masts where fitted with a new forward superstructure that was raised higher than the previous to house the new M-1 'Strela' SAM system. Another two SAM launchers where fitted on the bow.
Both Smolensk and Sverdlovsk operated both in Vostok and Cascade waters, overshadowing Angevin submarines. Smolensk was decommissioned in 1973, while Sverdlovsk was decommissioned in 1979 as more suitable ASW cruisers came to be, such as the Kynda, Kresta etc...

The Sverdlov-class (Project-68bis) where the last gun conventional gun cruisers built for the Serverniyan Red fleet. They were built in the 1950s and were based on the previous Chapayev-class. They were designed to improve their sea capabilities, allowing them to operate at high speeds in the rough waters of the Strato. The design carried an extensive suite of modern radar equipment and anti-aircraft artillery. The Serverniyans originally planned to build 40 ships in the class, to be supported by the Vostokgrad-class heavy cruisers and various aircraft carriers.
In 1954 Sverdlov class construction was canceled after 14 hulls had been completed. Two additional hulls were scrapped on the slip, and four partially complete Sverdlovs launched in 1954 were scrapped in 1959. Sverdlov class ships remained in service through the 1970s, during which they underwent a limited modernization program before finally leaving service in the late 1980s.
The only remaining ship of the class, Mikhail Kutuzov, is preserved in Novorossiysk. (Yes this is a canon city)

Zhdanov was converted to the Pr.68U-1
Admiral Senyavin was converted to the Pr.68U-2
Dzerzhinsky was converted to a Pr.70 class.

The Dzerzhinsky-class (Project-70) was an anti-aircraft cruiser commissioned for the Serverniyan Red Fleet. The only ship built was a former Sverdlov-class ship 'Dzerzhinsky' specifically, it had its torpedo tubes, eight of its 37mm guns and one of the 152mm gun batteries removed and replaced with an experimental AA missile system. Its superstructure was changed a bit, and another structure was added in the rear, similarly seen in the U-1 and U-2 conversions for the Sverdlov.
The only ship, Dzerzhinsky was commissioned in 1958, before being decommissioned in 1989 along side the other Sverdlovs, as conventional gun cruisers were obsolete by then.

The Harbin-class (Project-68M) was a light cruiser commissioned for the Serverniyan Red Fleet. Being the smallest of the Pr.68 family, the Harbin was a smaller and faster variation of the Chapayev and Sverdlov class ships.
Its secondary weaponry was replaced with SM-39 mounts while some of the 45mm where increased to 9 twin mounts.
Though 7 units were planned only 3 were built for the Pr.68M configuration, the other 4 ships where converted into Pr.70E guided missile cruisers.
The last Harbin, 'Vilnius' was retired in 1972.

The Vladivostok-class (Project-70E) was an anti-aircraft cruiser commissioned for the Serverniyan Red Fleet. Intended as a modernization for the Pr.68M, it was decided to rebuild the last four units as anti aircraft cruisers. Unlike the Dzerzhinsky this variation has two launchers for the massive M-3 SAM in place of the previous 152mm guns. A new superstructure was put in place with improved anti-air guns. The Forecastle hull was extended right up to the aft, while the frontal 152mm guns were kept.
Pr.70E was outdated by the 1970s with the rise of much faster carrier borne planes and better missile technology. The Pr.1126 ships would replace Pr.70E in its main role, before the last ships Omsk and Irkutsk were decommissioned in 1974.

The Volga-class (Project-65) was an light cruiser commissioned for the Serverniyan Red Fleet. Originally planned as a smaller version of the Pr.68 cruisers during the final days of the Great Calamity. Unlike Pr.68s this class has only 3 triple 152mm turrets on the deck hull. Five units were built in the early 40s before being commissioned between 1943-44. During the final years of the Calamity, these ships served as a deterrence of Volken warships in the Vostok Sea.

One such ship, the Neva single handedly went head to head with a Volken Admiral Hipper-class warship and winning after hitting its bridge with its main guns at the cost of mild to severe damage.
After the war these ships served entirely with the Vostok Fleet until its last ship, Neva was retired in 1983 and preserved as a museum ship for her duties in the War.

Introducing Kalachakram (AU India)
with the Thevar class of ASW cruiser, a sub class of the Kresta-II used by Serverniya.
First 4 of the class Thevar, Tarun, Tejas and Trilok were constructed in Serverniya based shipyards in 1969 and was Commissioned in Kalachakram Navy in 1970.
6 more were built under contract in Kalachakram itself.
