What I think this idea/concept could look like.
At a glance:
Power:
- two LM2500, at minimum 25.000hp each, getting air from air intake in the main superstructure (There are more air intake on the port side of the main superstructure) and supplemented with extra from the aft funnel.
- Top speed should be at minimum 27 knots, but ideal it should be at US/NATO fleet speed, due to Norway doctrine of escorting allied supply ships and other warship into Norway during war, but also due to that they also occasionaly escort US carrier
- Range should be around the same as current class
Armament:
- Two 76mm guns, instead of 56mm. Since that is the main armament in the Norwegian Navy. (But I wouldn't be surprised if they would go for 56 or 40mm)
- Forward MK41 VLS will most likely be replaced by the new VLS USA is developing for the Future destroyers. In a combination of new VLS and MK48 or Mk41 SDLS basic for ESSM, while the new VLS take care of larger missiles.
- Increased the amount of NSM it carry, compared to FN class
Aviation:
- Hangar would stretch from forward part of the lift to aft of Helicopter landing pad "1 port". on a deck lower and aft, there is space for one USV or two, with possible space for Captas or similar
- Flight deck should be capable to operate 2 medium helicopters
- are next to the lift on the flight deck, should be a stand-by location for helicopter with multiple anchorage points for a helicopter.
- Flight deck should be FLEX-capable and be able to store various of "mission" containers
- Hangar should have space for: 2 medium helicopters. 5-10 UAV in various configuration (some dismantled and some ready for flight)
- forward flight deck, have 3 pads for UAV and a catapult for small/medium UAV (landing is possible on flight deck but not marked on drawing)
Crew:
- Bellow aft helicopter pad, is one of the largest crew berthing with space (depending on layout) for 60 to 90 men/woman in 6 man cabins. Rest of the berthing places is spread around the ships in either 4 man or 6 man cabins.
Other stuff:
- The overall internal Volum is probably increased around 20%+ compared to FN class.
- Radars is either Americans or European. (on drawing it is just generic radar panels)
- Main radar structure is of composite/grp
Note that weapons, electronics, radar, equipment on drawings are more or less generic, since it's unknown what will be used in 10-15 years into the future
This drawing bellow illustrate the size difference between the Fridtjof Nansen class frigates and the FFX frigate I have drawn.
- Grey illustrate the approx size of the dock and hall. The dock it 140 meter long, 24 meted wide and 37 meter tall at the lowest point.
--- It is around 8-10 meter taller under the steel roof.
--- Can be moved up higher the future if needed
--- The lowest point of the dock, can't be changed, due to a building on top of the mountain. (not Impossible if the "stupid" amount of money is there)
- The hall is 150 meter long
--- can be enlarged by moving the dock gate, more out into the sea.
--- it is also possible to lengthen it into the mountain, but the roof height is limited (see previous comment)
--- The is space to increase the width of the dock and hall (If the Aviation frigate version with a sponson on port side was to be chosen) (was done with the previous frigate program, since it was run on a separate budget then the frigate program)
The drawing is right at the limit, off what is possible for the dock ar Haakonsvern. But I belive future Navy ships in most countries will become bigger but with smaller crew, mainly due to the electronics needed, but the armament on those ships would most likely not increase by much, only its capability.
Note from the picture bellow:
The dock have build in, extra hole in the dock floor, to give some extra work space for: Sonar, Propellers, rudders, and so that the Azimuth truster can be lowered fully and be pulled out.
The yellow arms, are designed on paper to withstand pressure if something unwanted was to happen, like for example an close by explosion that manage to get the ship to shift in position (What I am informed). As I was informed: "it is not to make sure the ship survive, an explosion is an explosion, but make it easier for us to pull out the ship or what is left of it. Then having a massive and dangerous clean up operation for years inside the dock"
