An attempt at a cohesive, driven design.
Starting from below the waterline, we have a pair of fin stabilizers, retractable for ice operations. With that, we also have wholly protected shafts aft, and a strengthened bow fore. The hull sonar is a TSM 2633.
Slightly above, there's a shelter-deck bow that's been raised to maximize freeboard. Along with much of the hull, the edge is greatly rounded to prevent ice formation. Aft, the helicopter deck gently slopes to prevent interference from mooring equipment, and then severely declines to fit the SQS-504 variable-depth sonar. Close by is a propeller guard.
The superstructure begins with a covered, and complex, RIM-7 launcher, suited for all-weather use. Just aft is a enclosed citadel protected against ABC threats. A wash-down system surrounds sideThe bridge atop features sloped windows to prevent reflection & glare, and atop the citadel, a cage mast is present; a solid or tripod mast would be unsuitable given the expected, inclement weather. SPS-12 and SPS-10, in addition to a WM22 radar, are installed.
Aft of the citadel, the enclosed superstructure continues, with two uptakes for the two-boiler COSAG propulsion; the combination was intended to ensure survivability in the face of nuclear threats. Around the exhausts, elements of the WLR-1 ESM system are installed, as are various antennae. Past the rear uptake for the Metrovick G6 turbines, two shielded 12.7mm machine guns and a Bofors TAK76 cannon are equipped. Below them, a ship's boat is present.
Two QH-50 DASH are operated from the rear helideck. These were the primary anti-submarine systems, supplemented by a twin-barrel 375mm mortar in the bow.
