U.S. Coast Guard Medium Security Cutter, Revenue
History:
In 2017, the USCG put forward a proposition to congress to start replacing all the Medium Endurance Cutters currently in service, as the oldest was commissioned in the 1960s, and the newest was commissioned in the 1980's. Congress approved 2 designs, what would become the
Heritage-class, and the
Revenue-class. The 11
Heritage-class vessels were started first, but ended up commissioned later than the
Revenue-class, due to design issues, CoVID-19 and hurricane damages, while the
Revenue-class was basically a smaller version of the
Legend-class Large Security Cutter. Vigor Shipyards, PNW Division (formerly Todd Shipyards), won the contract, and constructed all 7 of the
Revenue-class cutters in Portland, OR, and Seattle, Everett, and Bremerton, WA. The first of the
Revenue-class cutters, the USCGC Patrick Dennis WMSM-926, was commissioned on the 30th of December 2021, in USCG Station Seattle, its homeport.
