Here is a another oldie.

During the closing stages of WW2 the German merchant marine was nearly decimated. To help fill the gaps a small, simple design was adopted (in fact one of several types), the Hansa Typ A, was a small ship aroun 300 feet in length, driven by triple-expansion steam engine, the boilers could burn coal or fuel. But because of Allied bombings and so most ships were not completed, only 37 in total were completed, most of which went to the Allies. One of them which went to Belgium was operated by Compagnie Belge Maritime du Congo, part of the Compagnie Maritaime Belge (CMB) company and named Kindu. The ship was in Belgian hands untill 1951 and sold to a Sweddish company, which in turn later sold the ship to Greece, there she stayed untill scrapped in 1977 in Spain. Many of these Hansa Typ A went to Britain and some were in Soviet hands.

Incidently the ship Jahre Viking never flew the Panama flag. As Jahre Viking she was under the Norway flag and before that she was under the flag of Liberia. In 2010 she was sold, put under the flag of Sierra Leone, and under that flag was towed from Quatar for scrapping in India.

A humble German vessel built in 1909 as a passenger ferry; was used as a troop transporter in both world wars. An interesting fact: after both world wars she was acquired by the Allies yet found her way back to Germany every time. Re-named and re-built numerous times she's got her original name in 2003. A boat like that, humble in appearance as she is, is the kind that really builds the romance of the sea.

This ship was built in Norway in 1967, as part of a class of 17,000 DWT class of bulk carriers. She served under the Norwegian flag untill 1977, and sold to Greece untill 1988 when she was put under the flag of Panama, and was scrapped in China in 1993.
