Hello,

This is a proposal of the USS North Carolina (BB-55) as proposed in 1937, the year she was laid down:

Any mistakes, please do tell!

Thank You!

No idea about mistakes, but the drawing looks impressive. Keep up the good work on the US never-weres.

Are those 18inch guns?

Thanks! And those are 16" guns, the same one that has been adopted in the real ship. Here is the proposal with the 14" guns as proposed. I have realised and misread the blueprint. The rest should be exact or at least similar.

Hello,

New ship, this time a probable napkinwaffe type design as envisioned by apparently Admiral King and Admiral Nimitz. This is an Iowa-class battleship as redesigned in 1946 to increased anti-aircraft firepower.

Thank You!

I love that design...the length and beauty of the Iowa hull combined with the squat superstructure of the SoDaks. That big funnel is awesome!

That is an interesting proposal and not bad looking at all with the single funnel. Plenty of AA firepower too.

One wonders if this rather more cramped arrangement would have as long an active career in the postwar US Navy.

The looks of it is certainly more handsome but I think there would be lower amounts of modernisations capabilities beyond simply just tearing the whole thing apart or rebuilding structures.

Interesting. I always thought the US should have built a pair of "Fast Battleships after the London treaty expired. A fast North Caroline with 9 x 14" guns. Something to beat S& G or a captured Dunkirk. Same armor but at least 30 knots.
Also I checked "US Battleship"s by Norman Friedman. Page 263 shiows the NC design with 12 x 14" in three turrets but a single funnel set back from the conning tower
