"Little Norway"

In the rush to rearm in 1940 Norway had left it just too late. They had ordered 2 batches of Curtis Hawk fighters; 24x Twin Wasp powered Hawk 75A-6's and 36 Cyclone powered Hawk 75A-8's. At the time of the invasion only 19 of the A-6's had been delivered, and then only 7 had been assembled - but were not combat ready. These aircraft were seized by the Germans and sent to Finland.
Thirty of the remaining aircraft were delivered from the US to Canada, where the Norwegian government in exile sent up a system of airforce training bases, known as "Little Norway".
The Curtis Hawks were used as advanced trainers out of Toronto Island airfield. In 1943 these aircraft were sold back to the US as P-36G's and were then sent onwards to Peru.



In 1940 Norwegian military buyers had travelled to the to purchase a light bomber for both the Army and Navy air services. Initially the choice had been the Vultee V-11, but as Vultee could not deliver in time they were forced to "shop around". The Northrop A-17 light bomber was chosen, but as it could not be adapted to fit floats, an alternate was required for the Navy.
The Northrop Company was bought and brought into the Douglas stable, and the Army aircraft became the Douglas 8A-5 by the time of delivery. The down-payment on the 36 aircraft ordered had only been made a month before the German invasion, and so construction of the first aircraft was only completed in October - after the government had gone into exile.
Again the aircraft were delivered to "Little Norway" for training purposes.
After 2 aircraft were lost to accidents, the decision was made to standardise training on British types, and the remained 34 aircraft were returned to the US as A-33's. The aircraft were then destined for Peru, but some were retained in the US as target tugs and utility aircraft.



The Navy choice for the light bomber was the first product of the new Northrop Aircraft founded by Jack Northrop after the sale of his earlier company to Douglas. The Northrop N3-PB was a further refinement to the A-17, rebuilt as a dedicated floatplane. Norway ordered 24, and also had made the down-payment a month before the invasion. The first aircraft was test-flown just before Christmas 1940 and the aircraft were all delivered in by March 1941.
Six aircraft were used in Canada as trainers, while the remaining 18 were sent to Iceland for combat use with Number 330 (Norwegian) Squadron, RAF. In 1941 as the training types were standardised the "Little Norway" aircraft were redeployed to squadron service in Iceland.
A single aircraft survives as a museum piece in Norway.

Indeed. Nice work! And what a strange little plane it is. Just make it longer and longer, right? Terrible to fly in, though.

Caproni Ca.312bis

The Caproni Ca.312bis was another design that was a casualty of the start of WWII.



In their pre-war spending spree Norway has ordered 24 Caproni Ca.310 aircraft in a "cod-for-aircraft" barter deal. Four were delivered, only to discover that they were unperformers and maintenance nightmares. Norway changed the order to 12 of the more powerful Ca.312, requesting that the nose glazing of the Ca.311 be fitted, creating the bespoke Ca.312bis.
The 2 initial aircraft were assembled in Italy, with licence production in Norway planned for the others. Crates of components were shipped to Norway and the first aircraft started a ferry flight to Norway. However the German invasion intervened and the aircraft was only flown as far as France. While awaiting permissions to fly the aircraft to Norway via Britain, Germany invaded France and further travel became a moot point. The aircraft disappears from history then, but may have been sold back to Italy.

I was just uploading recent SB and FD scale works, and I'd like to use that opportunity to address messrs. Orionfield and Ukraineball (but that's an issue that happens from time to time to other artists as well, and that's why I'm not raising it privately but here in public) in regards to the matter of proper crediting (in this case specifically about their Boeing 737's in United and Delta colors and 747 in America West colors - but NOT 737 in America West colors).

Crediting on Shipbucket is governed by Creative Commons License and Point 7 of the Style Guide

All Shipbucket drawings have the original author(s)' names shown in parentheses below the ship class and name in the top right corner of the template. Always place your name on the drawings you have created.
Artists who modify others' drawings must place their name after the original author's name in the template's credit line. Never remove the original artist's name.

That means, that names of the Artists involved with the drawing have to be placed in the chronological order, and ALL of them.
For the Boeing 737 it means, that one is using the blank 737 from the Archive as the base (and not draws it entirely from scratch) then the proper sequence is:

-for 737-100/200 (Nighthunter, Ashebourton, BB1987, ....................)
-for 737-300/400/500 (Guillermo2312, Eswube, Ashebourton, BB1987, ....................)
-for 737-600 onwards (Ashebourton, BB1987, ....................)

if the sheet includes mix of these versions (say, a 100, 300 and 600), then proper sequence is (Nighthunter, Guillermo2312, Eswube, Ashebourton, BB1987, ....................)

In regards to America West's 747 it means that Ukraineball should add himself to the credits (if the change from previous version was very minimal, then such addition could be not warranted, but a full livery definitely warrants adding the name).

Compliance with these principles is, as I believe, based on multiple declarations of Admins and Moderators (when we had them) in the past: non-negotiable.

EDIT: Orionfield should check the order of crediting for 747 as well.
