My honest assessment is: you're much better at modern vessels than you are at WWII-era and earlier, especially at this stage.

BTW, are these supposed to be nuclear powered? That honestly wouldn't make much sense for such a small ship.
Diesel electric. exhaust system from Mecmar AS (a Norwegian company), with Mecmar you do not need any kind of funnel, the chilled exhaust gas (which is also cleaned Nox) can be sent out back or on the side of the boat without causing problems for others.

Many offshore ships in Norway use them (it is important for them to have 360 degree view when they work up to an oil platform)

Several naval ships have this system also, for example. Visby class and Skjold class. The Italian Navy, the French and some that I do not remember have ordered this system to their ships to.

The advantages are:
Cooled exhaust
Better against environment
ways much less than the system used in ships today.
you do not need to have any type of funnel.

According to TimothyC the life-cycle cost breaks even around 5000 tons. I don't know when that study was made though.
Uhm, I don't remember that. I probably said that 5000 tons is about as small as you can get with a nuclear powered ship [based on SSNs with surface ship system additions, and even then it would end up as one very expensive, very underequipped ship]. Life cycle calculations are well beyond my current knowledge base. I've heard that the break even point for a carrier is between 35,000 and 60,000 tons (ie CdG is just on the wrong side, and QE just might be too).

Still need an uptake for the air to get to the engines. I myself might go with a CODAG setup.

the visby class is using a CODAG setup with the MECMAR system! (after what I have understood)

The Phalanx has an exceptionally bad field of fire.

I can draw it so that Phalanx hangs / sticking out slightly from the superstructure and thus gives us a 180 degree ...
