In 1958 the Royal Swedish navy reached its all time high with up to 200 warships, an able to commison thee cruiser squadrons with 1 light cruiser. 6 destroyers and 6 motortorpedo boats. But the same year the naby lots 1/3 om its budget and had to cancel or decommisione several ships with out replacement.
In 1972 came the nex backdrop. All protecction og trade and merchant shipping was cancelled from the navy’s mission by the politians. All large warships was die to be decommisioned within 10 years, most of the where not replaced or later replaced by corvettes.
In this scenario or AU the history is changed so the navy maintatins its budget and keeps her large warships and ASW escort capabilities.
This is design os for the replacemnet of the 18 light destroyers the navy builldt just before or during World war 2. The ship os duw be launch approx 30 yeras agter the ship she replaces. In this case 1966-1972.
She is given the same sensor suite as her larger cousin the Halland class with ARTE 62 (LW02) firecontrol, PS-401 surface search radar and PS-47 (LW02) air search radar. She mounts 3 tubes for wire guided torpedoes and a rwin ril for the RBS08 SSM. Main gun is the fully automatic Bogors TAK120 L60.
The ships recive a midlife upgrade during the early 1980s where the heavy RBS08 rail and 53cm torpedoes are removed and replaced by the brand nrw RBS15 SSM. The airdefence is improved by the RB71S ”SeaFlash – Skyflash missiles also used by the airforce JA 37 Viggen fighters. Adapted for shipborne use with start boosters. The Ericson 9LV fire control radar guides the missile.
The elderly radar suite is replaced by new search and firecontorl radars such as the Seagiraffe and the SPS-480 also used by the airforce for airspace surveillence.
