Not at all a bad starting point. From a drawing perspective, I'd focus effort on shading and detail to escape a somewhat "flat" effect (consistent sun angle, revision of masts, shading under overhangs, etc). I'd also make more use of standard parts for things like railings and ladders. From a design perspective, it seems fairly reasonable aside from the torpedo launchers, which would be prone to blast damage and could not be crewed during a gunfight. The portholes seem excessive and imply only a 6' deck height. Depending on era, much more light AA might be expected.
