The rudder is perfectly ok, except as ace mentioned to do away with the copper sheathing on its tiller part. You'd be amazed to realize what, proportionally small rudders ships of this age really had! A large part of the actual maneuvering of the ship was executed by the running rigging and the sails!
I know that* and I wasn't referring to its size. I should have explained myself better.
Anyway, the reason why it looks weird to me is because Ace hasn't shown the rudder stock which on ships like this is a very prominent feature.
*I have sailed traditional Fore-n-Aft and Square rigged ships both as a hobby and professionally for the last 13 years.
