Armstrong Whitworth A.W.29
Thwe competitor for the much maligned Fairey Battle, the A.W.29 would probably been just as militarily ineffective in 1939 if it had instead entered squadron service.
Due to AW being stretched with the Whitley and Ensign, the A.W.29 was only ready to fly nine months after the Fairey Battle - which had already been ordered in to production. Only the prototype was built, and after a wheels up landing the aircraft was never repaired.
