How about an Interwar multi-turret tank challenge, just for the memes? ;)

On a more serious note:
Some form of bomber challenge, notably a carrier-based torpedo bomber: possibly in the early-mid 30's?
Or for the next SB-scale one, what if we had a battlecruiser challenge of sorts? Maybe a "1st Battlecruiser challenge" perchance? :D

FACs definitely need more love, so how that as an idea? On the plus side, they require far less time than a battlecruiser, so such a competition would be open to a larger group of artists.

Maybe a XIX century ironclad, in SB scale. In FD scale, an interwar fighter; a missile armed boat of 1970 or so, in FD scale, would be also an interesting proposal. Cheers.

Hospital Ships will be an original idea, also in these times of pandemic problems, thought a ship is the worst place for contagios patients.

How about something radically different, yet still with that shipbucket swagger?

Ahem.

"Greetings designer, and welcome to the yacht design studio of Schipp and Bucket (It's pronounced "Bouquet")!

Our client for today has given us the following brief:

To design a monohull motor yacht for his private use, no charter amenities required.
Said yacht should be transatlantic, with a minimum range of 4000 sea miles at cruise.
There should be room for twelve guests in six staterooms, and one owners suite. Said owners suite should cover at least one whole deck, and, apart from the bedroom and his/her en-suites, should also hold room for private dining, both indoors and al-fresco, an office, and a library. An outdoor, forward facing jacuzzi close to the bedroom is required
For the guests there should also be both indoors and al-fresco dining possible.
On the sundeck there should be a bar, and a jacuzzi.
The aft deck should feature a (at least) ten meter pool. A gym and spa should also be available.
Further requirements are the ability to carry at least two ten meter tenders, and four jetskis.
There should be room for a touch-and-go landing pad for a medium sized private helicopter. A hangar is not required, but the ability for the ship to carry a helicopter inside a hangar would be a plus.
A beach club is not a requirement, but would be nice.
There should be berthing for 34 crew (The captain gets a private suite, as does the engineer.)
Here's the big one: This yacht should have a cruising speed of 20 knots, and a top speed of 40 knots, and a minimum range of 1000 sea miles at max speed!"

So yeah. This would be a big (you're looking at 100 meters + with these requirements) yacht... And FAST. It's cruising speed is higher than most yachts top speed.
Because here's a dirty little secret: Most yachts look as if they're seaborne Formula One cars, but they have the engine of a pinto.
Note that none of the required parts of the above brief are impossible to put in one design. In fact, someone did it, and the only reason it didn't get build is because the Turkish billionaire client got sued for a lot of money by Nokia...

So. No guns. No missiles. Just sickening luxury, and almost, but not quite, ridiculous speed.

If this challenge gets picked I'll put together a list of websites to trawl through, because the world of superyachts is a wild one, and not one this board has focussed much upon.

Alternative yacht idea, much more freedom:

This is the Christina O, which once belonged to Aristotle Onassis. She's one of THE classic motor yachts.

She also served in WWII as HMCS Stormont, a River class frigate.

Your job is to take a former naval vessel, and turn her into a luxury yacht. Ships from 1939 till modern day are allowed. Explain what you did, Keep parts of the superstructure, or remove everything over the main deck. if you kept the propulsion systems, engineering systems, or not. Is her displacement less?

You're allowed to take any naval vessel that was scrapped in the mentioned timeline, but remember that even though millionaires and later billionaires have deep pockets, they don't have bottomless pockets. Stay slightly realistic. It's highly unlikely that you'd ever find someone to finance turning a heavy cruiser or an aircraft carrier into a yacht.

A modern amphibious assault ship, with a variation for shore bombardement/attack and another version for greater transport at the cost of offensive capability
