As Royal Navy seems to be "in" these days, I decided to ride with the bandwagon to the fame and drew my first ship with white ensign.



The Shakespeare class leaders have always been one of my favorites among their kind, really the last "good looking" RN destroyers IMO untill the H class and the nice angular bridge structure. And while Im lately (in last couple of years) drawn hundreds of never-to-leave-my-vaults destroyers from 20's and 30's to my Finnish AU progress, I've come to appreciate the simple and dynamic looks of certain destroyer classes.

I leave the crest and the wartime look to some skillfull fan to complete with my kind permission.

yeah, its canvas, really ligth grey so it migth fool the eye.

The Dutch destroyers were actually more close (actually nearly sisters) to the Ambuscade and Amazon, the two prototypes to the A-I class. The Shakespeare class preceded them and is from late WWI years.

Also one of my favourites this and in fact the V&W class were an inovative design, when first appeared in the closing stages of WW1. The idea of making the guns superimposed, both foreward and aft, in destroyers, was first done in these ships. Most destroyers of WW1 had only one gun in front of the bridge, the others distributed along the ship aft . Some ships had guns side by side foreward (like HMS Swift -after the 6" gun was replaced with 2 4" guns to give her a uniform battery).
Any way a very nice drawing, as can be expected.

nice. Can it be made bit smaller? That is good size for large vessels like cruisers and carriers, but in the smallest template, It fills nearly all of the unused quarter...

I know the size is a problem for some size of vessels, but I will try. As I wrote to Thiel, the size was found after experimenting a lot to get the smallest size but the right heraldic expression though. But for some - maybe HMS Kettel is one of those - it's possible. I will made an effort
