In this challenge, you are asked to draw an attack aircraft which served during the Cold War, or your nation's equivalent post-war geopolitical struggle. Your aircraft must be in service at some point between 1947 and 1991. However, it does not need to serve throughout the entire period. Nor must it enter service during this period. Older designs are allowed. The real life A-1 Skyraider, for example, would qualify. So too would the A-10 Thunderbolt II. Please read the challenge rules relating to submissions and drawings.

Design Requirements
  1. Your submission must depict a fixed-wing attack aircraft. Fighter-bombers and multirole aircraft do not qualify.
  2. The primary role of your aircraft should be the destruction of frontline targets in support of ground forces.
  3. It must be in active service at some point between 1947 and 1991. It may enter service earlier.
  4. The number of engines is restricted to one or two. JATO engines are not counted.

Challenge Rules
  1. Each participant may submit up to three images.
  2. Every image must be an FD template modified to include the participant’s art. Templates which include a data sheet are allowed.
  3. No more than three views are allowed in each image.
  4. All views within a single image must depict the same aircraft at the same point in time.
  5. A textual description accompanying each submission is allowed, but not necessary.
  6. Off-topic posts will be reported to the relevant authorities.
  7. All drawings should be in FD scale.

The challenge will run until the 3rd of April, ending at 23:59 UTC.

A poll will be held after this date. Members of the Shipbucket community will have an opportunity to score, on a scale of 1 to 10, each submission in four categories:

  • Drawing Quality - The overall quality of the drawing. One might consider detailing, shading, and accuracy.
  • Design Realism - How realistic is the design presented? Any accompanying text may be considered.
  • Originality - Does the submission present a new and unique design, or is it a copy of an existing one?
  • Suitability - Does the design meet the requirements of the challenge?

Just a quick notice for those who read the opening post immediately, there was some confusion on Discord and I have updated the Challenge Rules section to clarify matters.

The following rules:
  • One submission per person.
  • Each submission may include up to three drawings. A drawing is one or more views of the same aircraft with the same paint scheme on a standard FD template.
  • The number of views is limited to three per drawing. Multiple views are not required, but they are encouraged.

Have been modified to read:
  • Each participant may submit up to three images.
  • Every image must be an FD template modified to include the participant’s art. Templates which include a data sheet are allowed.
  • No more than three views are allowed in each image.
  • All views within a single image must depict the same aircraft at the same point in time.

Apologies for the delayed response. This challenge is fairly broad, so you can choose whichever you prefer.

The Jovian Islands have long since been a proud nation with focus on keeping some of the older strategies in place along with their new strategies. During the 1980s, Jovian Aerospace introduced the JoA-09. The fighter is fitted with 2 UB-32 missile pods with unguided missiles, 2 YakB gatling guns and 2 GAU-8/A Avenger gattling guns. The aircraft is notable due to it's very thick wings which many see as insane due to the fact most wings of fighter aircraft are thin. The reason behind the thick wings is due to the ammo of ammo that is stored inside those wings. The Ammo is made for tearing apart enemy troops and tanks as the aircraft is an attack aircraft designed to fill in a massive spot that the Jovians lacked due to the developments of others. The UB-32s were added to tear tanks apart with unguided munitions. There is a naval variant but it is not currently in service following several failures of the tail hook during landing on the carriers due to bad part design by the company. Today, only 2 squadrons are known to use the JoA-09 but they are sadly unavaible due to a current war going to which the JoA-09 shines.

For those confused about the Hitsubishi name, that was when Jovian Aerospace got overrun with orders for the JoA-09. Hitsubishi took to the plate and offered their help to build the new aircraft. The Jovian Intelligence Agency soon gave the aircraft a nick name pilots would remember, Agent. Plans for export to the US, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and other nations are being considered by exports to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan are currently underway.

And before anyone asks, yes this aircraft is for my AU which is being worked on a lot. It is currently not yet complete with all the details and will be introduced later.

Yes. the GAU-8 is the Avenger which is used by the A-10 Thunderbolt 2.
