Varkov class destroyer
The Varkovs were a new attempt for Desnia's High Seas Fleet to create a universal fleet escort destroyer. Whereas previous oceanic destroyers were of the 'leader/gunboat type' or the 'torpedo boat type', where their roles were specific and defined, these new escort destroyers came as a result of observation of Antaran destroyer doctrine. The Varkovs utilized the new 13cm/40 B22 HA twin mount, which were heavy, power driven dual purpose mount that fired lighter shells for quicker loading, which were too modeled after Antaran mounts that were bought for testing. It was common belief that B22 mount was in fact the best dual purpose gun of the World War despite Desnia's lesser need for it than Antara.
The quicker ROF of the new guns was also expected to suppliment the fact that it carried less guns than previous destroyer gunboat types. As Varkov was meant to be a hybrid, her designers did not slack off with her torpedo armament. The Varkov class was commissioned with four launchers, two triple centerline and two twins on the sides. Due to the combination of large torpedo armament and heavy main battery, Varkov was overweight which resulted in a cancellation of many vessels, leaving the class at only 16 members out of the intended 40.
