Had a weird idea. You know how the Thaiphone challenge was super interesting but SPG-59 was too complicated for us mere mortals to understand so like nobody managed to finish an entry?

What if we flip it on it's head so we pick an easy system that was used by just about anything and you draw a ship using that, so:

5"/38 challenge

main gun only

Long Beach qualifies

Final destination

I'd like to suggest a first dreadnought challenge, as it appears the last time there was such a challenge was in 2015, right around when I stopped lurking. :D

What about "what you think the next generation Large Surface Combatant ought to look like?" It wouldn't necessarily have to be limited to the USN, but it could be if we want to do one with tighter rules.

Well, we have a gunboat challenge now but what about a challenge based around a ship such as the Monge in the french navy ?

Otherwise, i would love to see the next challenge being a FD UCAV/UAV or FD Spyplane challenge .

I reckon an FD 1960s-1980s reconnaissance plane could be interesting

I had an idea just now

Common hull challenge:
- 2 ship drawings, any era, any nation.
- both ship drawings must be different (in role, age, nation, weapons, whatever)
- Both ship drawings must have the hull in common.

judging criteria:
- the normal stuff we judge on
- How workable is the 'commonality' (so are both hulls used to their full potential)
- How different are the 'differences' (in role, age, nation, weapons, whatever)

The winner would be the best drawing of the most workable ships which are the most different :P and I suspect that could be interesting as hell
