An older ship, which was also used on the Far-East run between Northern Europe and the Far East.
The Swedish ship Japan was built in Great Britain in 1911 for the Swedish East Asia company. The Japan and her sister ship Ceylon were the first new built ships for the company, which till then used second hand tonnage.
The Japan came to a sad end when during May 1941 on a voyage between Britain and Freetown on the west coast of Africa, she was torpedoed by the German submarine U-38 and sunk. Ceylon came out of WW2 unscathed and was sold to Hong Kong in 1950 and then to Japan in 1951 and after several more years of service scrapped in Japan in 1962
