Ah, I see the sponsoned SPG-51 now.

2x2 is definitely better than 2x1, but not as good as 4x1. You'd tend to expect the threat to come along a single axis, and the Tico arrangement is definitely not ideal (it's worth noting that CGN-42 and the CSGN both would have had a 4x1 arrangement of SPG-62).

Shigure's design is also attractive, although I think it needs a helo on the deck! In the firmly postwar era with few light AA guns, I don't see why you'd trunk both boiler rooms into a single stack (and indeed, macks might be the default by 1970).

Thank you for the warm comments everyone. For the 3D radar, SPS-48 would've probably been the more sensible option from the start, but as I said I wanted to avoid a predominance of US equipment. The location on the platform, while ungainly, means I can avoid noxious gas turbine exhaust alltogether. When I tried to rearrange everything on the second version, everything proved too cramped to keep the 3D radar on the rear arcs together with the FCS. I feel the first configuration is about as ideal as it's going to get for such a small combatant using such heavy equipment.

Hmm, Shigure, is there enough depth for a Mk 13 there? Looks like a tight fit for vertically stored missiles.

Charguizard, I love your take on a Mk 13 - equipped Tribal class, something about it really screams “Canadian” to me which is hard to evoke, as many of the Canadian vessels designed from the 50s to the 70s has such a distinctive look which is difficult to capture in a totally original design.

As erik_t said, I wonder if Type 984 is slightly dated for the time period? I wonder if a more period-appropriate solution would be SPS-01 in an elevated position above the bridge such as on the Tromp-class with the secondary air search radar located on a mast where the Type 984 is located now.

All in all a very interesting design, keep up the good work!

here is my not quite so little entry for this mini challenge, she's a bit rough around the edges, but what can you do when you don't know a lot about modern warships

IJN tenryuu, was a tenryuu class AA Cruiser commissioned in 1976, her class was designed to fill a major gap in the imperial Japanese fleet, this gap was that of a dedicated AA ship, however she also was designed to have some ASW capabilities and to work alongside dedicated ASW platforms. In the late 1980s several of the tenryuu class were converted to dedicated ASW warships, this involves the complete remodel of the entire Stern of the ship with the missile systems being removed and replaced with a large helicopter flight deck and hanger, along with the addition of a large towed array sonar.

a Ship this big, should at least carry some AAW system. Even a ASW ship have some limited AAW capability, and this big ship should at minimum carry something like a ESSM or similar. I think.

But I would also expect it to carry some more sensor plattform and illuminators, as a part of a battle group.

I like the novelty factor of saying "actually, this personal design is underloaded with combat systems".

Fleet Overhaul Project 1970: The Destroyers
In 1970, the Speaker's Council voted to authorize a massive fleet overhaul at the urging of top admirals looking to stay up-to-date with the world (until this point, the Bahiriyi's missile ships were PSW-era conversions). With battleships falling out of style by 1950, and aircraft carriers becoming increasingly expensive, the Navy decided to focus on a new fleet structure, with three missile strike-oriented cruisers being the core of the new formations. To escort these ships, the Navy requested an additional six air-defense destroyers, the Asaidar-class. These ships featured a powerful anti-air suite, thanks to two M67 missile launchers (each with a capacity of forty Medebenya 1 missiles), as well as the necessary M68 guidance system.

As part of this upgrade program, the need for enhanced fleet anti-submarine warfare capabilities was met through the Mazare-class destroyers. In order to keep costs down, they were based off of the Asaidar-class, and thus share a common appearance. They carried a powerful anti-submarine rocket, as well as a point-defense surface-to-air missile system for self-defense. Notably, the ships were designed with helicopter operations in mind, and lessons learned from earlier conversions provided useful insight into how these aircraft should be handled.

Thx for the compliment. I have not designed a period appropriate helicopter yet, and ill take note of the final trunking in the future.

There is indeed. I have made sure
