this is one of the many North Carolina class preliminary designs drawn drawn up throughout the course of the mid to late 1930s, this particular one scheme C along with scheme B, have always been my favourite out of the bunch.

I also chose to depict the ship as if it was commissioned in 1938 which is the reason why it has Mark 38 and Mark 37 directors on it

Very interesting. American warships of this era tend to have their own distinctive appearance, but this concept appears to have a great deal of British influence in its characteristics. Lovely drawing as well.

Kinda has a Nelson-esque feel to her...nice work!

thanks she wasn't the easiest to draw, considering that some aspects like ventilation was completely missing from the original plan, so using a bit of common Sense and judging where the boiler rooms were and using the original plan, I had to make a educated guess on the where the ventilation would have been if she had ever progressed to a more finalised design state

Lovely drawing. Like the other guys, as soon as I saw her I thought "very Nelsonesque". She does have a G3 (I think) preliminary feel to her.

thanks, I am considering doing some of the more unique North Carolina preliminaries, particularly scheme F has caught my interest, based on how hideous it looks and the fact that it's a really weird concept for a battleship.

Pretty nice!

I have a few minor comments though.....
- I suspect part of the hull would have an skeg, so the part under the forwards propeller shaft should not be uniformly dark shaded IMO
- I might be wrong, but I would suspect a tiny bit of shading under a bow that extreme
- under the #4 main gun turret, the hard edge there would have been shaped like that on the bulkheads, but there would be an rounded section there to avoid stresses in the structure, I think?

Btw, where were the boiler and turbine rooms situated on this design? looks like the turbines might have been forwards from the boiler rooms, which would suggest long and low shafts, but I might be wrong about that.....
