When the news of the nerw Soviet desstroyer Sovremenjy emerged in the early 80s/ late 70s the old swedish Horn Class where to old for frontline service and a new destroyer leader in the baltic was needed to give the FACs area airdefence protection and OTH targeting with helicopters. The result was the wester answer to the sovremeny - the Lewenhaupt class which started her trails in 1982.

Wow! Looks fantastic. The only comments I could gave is that the aft gun FCR could use a ''prodection wall'' because if the missile is firing the FCR will mostly damage!

I am thinking of that aswell, but if the missile fires in that angle it will most certainly hit the aft gun aswell. but som kind of protection is needed....

Wow, unless those ABLs are pointi outwards, landing on that pad is going to be an interesting task.
I think there's a drawing of and oblige ABL somewhere.

The installation points outwards in a similar way of the installation onboard the USN Virginia-class CGN.

Not a perfect solution, but I think i could work with a small helicopter, just as a temporary aset.

Wow lovely.

A baltic dreadnougt indeed. She´s got a quite narrow hull compared to say hms Dreadnought, one metre less but little longer.
Is that for operations in the archipelagos?
