Here is my late entry as usual, also my first drawing of real ship because mostly i draw personal design
Italian Orsa Class Torpedoboat
The Orsa class were a group of large torpedo boats or destroyer escorts built for the Italian Navy in the late 1930s. They were an enlarged version of the Spica-class torpedo boat, with more endurance and a greater depth charge load but less powerful machinery and a lighter gun armament. The resulting Orsa Class came from Regia Marina studies on Escort Ship capable to escort Italian convoy from Italian colony against light attack.
Orsa,The lead ship of the class, was laid down in 15 February 1936 in CNR Palermo Naval Yard, and commisioned in March 1938
In 1942,
Orsa as with other Italian ships were painted in dazzle camouflage and her AA armament were upgraded
In mid 1943,
Orsa underwent modernization with replacing her old 100mm OTO 35 mount with new OTO 37 mount that would remain for rest of her life. She also receiving different pattern of camouflage and substantial AA upgrade with 20mm Oerlikon and German 20mm Flakvierling in new mount.
After the Armistice,
Orsa were lucky, compare to her sister ship
Pegaso and
Procione which have been scuttled to prevent her capture,The ships sailed with doomed
Roma to surrender into Allied Forces, and she made it,safely and quicky were brought back into service with Royal Navy, although still with Italian crew, she bear standard RN blue camouflage from 1944-1945.
After war she was briefly decommissioned only to be re-commissioned again and rebuilt by post-war Marina Militare in 1955,Decommissioned 1964 and finally scrapped in 1965
Thats all about it folks!,although im originally going to draw post war version too,but have some difficulties didnt make it in-time,and its been a great time to draw Italian Ships which seems to be ignored
,so thats all
