Neptuno (1795)

DELETED

Neptune was an 80-gun ship launched in El Ferrol in 1795. Used the Retamosa system, the 5th and best of the Spanish Navy. It was very seaworthy and surpassed similar vessels of other power. It differed from other Spanish ships in the figurehead, with the image of the Roman god instead of the lion of the Spanish ships.

It was common for Spanish ships to receive a nickname, sometimes unrelated to the original name. Neptune's was "San Francisco Javier".

In Trafalgar he was commanded by Cayetano Valdés and was part of the avant-garde division of Dumanoir, but while Dumanoir escaped Valdés tried to help the Bucentaure, flagship of Admiral Villeneuve. Neptune suffered very serious damage and had to surrender after Valdés was seriously injured. Neptuno sank the next day.

This image is based on drawings of Neptune, and the rigging on drawings of the Bahama (from the same period) and on models of arsenal kept in the Naval Museum of Madrid.

Greetings

Really nice. Are we also going to see British and French ships of the same period sometime in the future?

Beautiful drawing. I only see one "small" problem.
If I'm right that it's this ship:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_s ... uno_(1795)
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neptuno_(1795)
then it's horribly oversized - Yours is some 80m long on the waterline and real one was some 20m shorter. :(

I see the mistake. Clearly I made a mistake in resizing the template.

I hope to correct it later, but for now it will be impossible, I have too much work. Then I'll correct the scale; even if it's not Shipbucket's style, at least it won't confuse.

Thanks for the advice.

I've already modified the scale; it's not Shipbucket's but it will avoid confusion until I draw the image again.

Sorry about the mistake

Really nice work of art, but maybe it belongs to another section of the forum?
Is it really Shipbucket scale?
The art work is magnificent none the less

Spain. Armada española. Neptuno (1795)

The scale error has been corrected (with a lot of work).
