One more classic.



These 5 ships were built in 1925-1927 for the Blue Star line, all having names begining wit 'A'. In 1928 all had the wors 'Star' added to their names (probably to avoid confusion with the 'A' class of Royal Mail - which were sailing on the same route, U.K to Argentina and back)

During the depression one ship was converted to a full-time cruise ship, and another to a cargo ship, but all 5 were sunk during WW2.

Hi there.
I am new to this excellent site, found it on a search looking for information on the motor ship Jutlandia ( 1934).
I have seen some photos out there which makes me think she was constructed with an icebreaker bow?
Can anyone confirm that ?
Also, if anyone has any anecdotal information or good photos about this famous ship, I should be delighted to hear from them.
Any help would be be much appreciated, as I hope to write an article on the shortly.

It's not an IB bow, but a Maier Bow. Looks like an IB bow, but it's not reinforced.

Congratulations on this superb subject - there is a vast 'unmined' reservoir of merchant ships ready to be drawn. In particular I love these older merchant ships that all died out once modern container ships came along; its a bit like the diference between a lovely old 1950's motorcar in all its individuality, comapred to a modern car that looks exactly like evry other car on the road (and the same goes warships, aircraft)
