Well, This one will have to be decided by Gollevainen, (or a majority of Moderators?) as I have to confess that I have also sinned against the Standard on my current HMS Belfast, where I've emphasised exposed but covered areas in a darker shade, to indicate the shaded area; o.k. not to the extent that Kim uses here, but my humble opinion is that the various depths of the large superstructure here are enhanced by diferences in tone.

making the different angle surfaces hiding out from the drawing can be made by using the different shades. But when using shade, use it in the range of the normal hull/upperworks shade. Sometimes a shade bit ligther than the upperworks standard shade can be added, but don't gimick around with too many shades. The shipbucke'ts idea is that the drawing is clearly colored in uniform color, and when the shade's and shaddow are used, there should be logic behind it.
Also when shading a curve use only one shading color Be it going ligther or darker is basicly up to everyone's taste (but again remember to retain the logic along the entire drawing), but do not use multible shades making stepped appereance.

Also, Don't try to justify a new non-kosher way of drawing by " but it looks better". Our drawings aren't supposed to look all the time better and better but to look like shipbucket drawings.

I'm a bit confused. I'll hope you, Golly, will help me out. I'll reckon it have something to do with perception. When I had read tutorials and discussions my perception for the right SB-way for naval ships is two different greys for hull and superstructure (that's all agreeing in) but then? As I understand it I'm allowed to do some shading to show depth, and I think you implicate that above. But how much is too much? I really want to do Fort Austin in the right way, but of course as good as possible. I'm really confused about the boundaries. I know I'm a bit provocative sometimes, but it's excactly to find out the limit when I'm confused. I hope it's obvious there have been some major progress towards SB-style from the first WIP of Fort Austin untill the current one.

Well I think I told that the principle is to use the shades that are there allready. To shade the normal upper works grey, go to either one notch darker or ligther, but not beyond that. Don't use multible stepped sets of colors.

As for what is really "wrong" this time, It looks to me that the upper works and the actuall hull shade difference is bit too deep, which gives the impression of wildly and wrongly used colors.
Also, the funnel shading (expecially in the part where you go darker from the normal color), is excatly what I mean with using multible shades.

Excellent, and to see it finally done is a true eye catcher. Top marks here.
