MD Scale is the scale to use when you want to draw your favourite ship using the Shipbucket style but in greater detail than the Shipbucket scale will allow, using the scale 4 Pixels : 1 Foot. An ideal scale for smaller vessels.

If anyone cares to try out this scale they are more than welcome to post them in this topic.

As an introductory drawing to MD Scale I've been working on drawing the Imperial German battlecruiser SMS Hindenburg, I'd like to post my first completed MD scale drawing and hopefully show the potential of this scale.

Hope you enjoy.

Tempest.

Thanks rundrewrun and Krakatoa, Hindenburg is my favourite battlecruiser and Baden my favourite battleship. It’s my intention to draw a plan view of Hindenburg and to draw Baden as well but I have a few other ships on my work list that I want to complete first.

Thanks Hood.

I've done some more work on Hindenburg and added the parts that I have so far to a template.

I think he's coming along nicely if I do say so myself :D .

This is really cool - at this scale you lose a lot of the need to exaggerate detail (because of the small SB scale). I’m interested in seeing how you do railings - this scale will allow them to be shown realistically, with stanchions and wire rope along the main deck or pipe railing on the superstructure as necessary (or at least however the HSF did it). ;)

I bet once the finished product is presented and more parts are drawn you’ll see more interest in this scale ;)

Hey guys, I've done a little bit of work to Hindenburg.

The major changes that I have made are that I have changed the size of the portholes; having stared at numerous photos I realised that the portholes that I had originally drew were oversized. I've replaced the sideways facing rangefinders to ones facing the bow and stern, as I've seen in other artists drawings, to me they look more realistic now. I've also added the starboard underwater torpedo tube and are at the stage of nearly completing the fore and rear masts to which I have added the correct colours, the foremast now IMHO looks brilliant :) .

I would have completed more of Hindenburg but I spent the best part of a day trying to draw the bow anchor, I usually move onto something else and come back to the problem part with a fresh perspective but I persisted nonetheless and it doesn't look to bad now but it is far from correct unfortunately and I haven't added it yet.

He's coming together nicely and I can't wait to finish him.

Hope you enjoy.

Tempest.
