Recently I've began embracing the idea of packing a whole lot of weapons on a small ship for use in littoral warfare. And a few days ago Industry Projects - Naval Technologie posted an article about the updated Ensdorf class minesweepers, and I was thinking, boy that would make a great base for a large FAC/Corvette.

So there she is. I just want to know from you guys wether such a design would be possible in therms of hull-to-weight ratio etc.

Armament:

1x Oto Melara 76mm gun
1x Bofors 57mm gun
1x Goalkeeper 30mm CIWS
4x NLOS M501 Loitering Attack Munition (LAM) (60 missiles in total)
8x Harpoon Block II anti-surface missiles
2x Naval Starstreak MANPADS (4 missiles pre-loaded each)

Minesweepers make a bad base for anything else. They have so many design decisions that just don't make sense unless you are hunting mines that by the time the design is no longer a minesweeper, you might as well have started from scratch. The use of three different guns (76mm, 57mm, and 30mm) on the hull doesn't help your case.

Maybe go for two twin Dardo 40mm gun mountings

Further work on this hull is pointless as you have a very expensive, very specialist hull, engine, sensor and equipment suite being used in a situation where they are not needed.

But why is this hull not sutable for this task? I believe you if you say it isn't, but why isn't it?

Most minesweepers are built with GRP hulls and by necessity are not fast.Perhaps a plastic or aluminium hull designed to go slow would not stand up to the stresses of high speed that an FAC would endure.

As far as I know these ships are made of non-magnatic steel.

It's the fact that minesweepers are expensive. You could use one in a gunboat/FAC roll, but a new, purpose built hull would be better.

Or, to be more precise, cheaper.
