HMS Gleaner was sold to the Western Australian Government in 1901, where she was repainted and entered service as the fledgling fleet's flagship, HMCS Swan until replaced by HMCS Phoebe(Later HMCS Perth). She served regularly as a coastal escort until 1918 when she was placed in reserve and sold in 1920 for scrap.

HMS Karrakatta was sold to Queensland's Naval Force in 1905 where she received some modifications, namely to make her more seaworthy for operations in the Coral Sea. Placed into reserve in 1912, she was brought back into service prior to the outbreak of the war where she served in New Guinea, often as a scout and escort for TSS Kanowna. While returning to Brisbane she ran into the Great Barrier Reef off Mackay and was almost written off. She spent 6 months in Mackay undergoing makeshift repairs whilst a new captain arrived to make the slow journey back to Brisbane where she was left in reserve until 1919 where she was stripped and sunk as a target off the northern tip of Moreton Island.

In 1918, HMVS Victoria received her first refit, she received modifications to her foremast that made it a tripod mast, armoured deck,3" HA mount aft, directors installed magazine layout and changed a number of boilers to be oil firing. In addition to that and 280t of extra displacement she was given a full service and a lick of paint. Upon her return to Victorian waters, she wore a golden funnel band. This is the guise she would be adopting till her second refit in 1933.
