In 1896, the Brazilian Navy began the construction of three riverine monitors to be used at the Parana-Paraguay River Basin. One of them, P-1 Pernambuco, was ready in 1910 and was used in both world wars. The construction of other two, P-2 Parnaíba, and P-3 Paraguassu, lasted until 1938 when they were incorporated to the Navy. All three were used in World War 2 at Salvador Harbour defence. I used Stugger U-17 Parnaíba as a starting point. All three had the same hull but were modified in the long building process. This is Paraguassu in 1938:

This is P-1 Pernambuco, the only one to be complete according the original blueprint. She was armed with 2 120mm cannons, two 47mm Vickers guns and two 37mm Maxim-Nordenfelt guns.

I will redone Stugger's P-2 Parnaíba to her 1938 configuration. She is used today at Mato Grosso Flotilha, based at Ladário. In 2012 I had the honor to participate in a Brazilian Navy exercise aboard her.

Brazilian ships were attacked by Axis submarines in 1942. Brazilian president, Getúlio Vargas, declared war to Germany and Italy. The Brazilian Navy was completely unprepared for the conflict and some emergencial measures were taken, amongst them, brings the three riverine monitors from the Paraguay River to reinforce Salvador's defences. In Salvador, Parnaíba received two depth charges rails. At war, Parnaíba even executed convoy escort duties and engaged one probable target plotted by a submarine chaser.
